Some Points To Remember About The Mind...

  • The mind’s job is to keep you safe (survive on this planet)
  • It remembers EVERYTHING!
  • Your mind never forget how things affect you and then spends it’s entire time keeping you away from pain – FOREVER
  • It LOCKS on to something created and NEVER moves on  UNLESS you change it
  • Once the brain believes something is TRUE, unless you make a change it carries it FOREVER 

 

This is because it’s all related to SURVIVAL instincts.

Not Eating That Again!

Your bad habits have a purpose #insatiablemel #eating disorders #rapidtransformationaltherapy #hypnotherapyThe brain uses significant experiences in our lives (IMPRINTS) to help with our survival. This was especially a vital skill in our primitive days.

 

 

For example: IF we ate from a bad fruit tree and was sick as a dog, our brains would remember NOT to go back to that same fruit tree again.

 

Just the same as when we experience bad things in our lives, we then ASSUME future experiences will be the same, EVEN if the chances are it wouldn’t happen again…

 

Maybe a significant experience like being laughed at as a child, now translates to having fear of public speaking or speaking up for ourselves because we are afraid to be laughed at.

 

The same goes with FOOD, when we have a bad experience with food, we tend to avoid it again.

Maybe you had a bad oyster, and had food poisoning and never ate it again?

Often you’ll hear people say, “I got so drunk on whiskey and now I can’t stand it anymore”.

Avoiding Our Feelings Creates Habits

However, some of our LEARNED fears hold us back. Just like public speaking, we become UNCOMFORTABLE when we have to face challenges like overcoming eating disorders.

 

For so long, because of our cultural upbringings, we weren’t really taught HOW to handle strong feelings.

 

It was common especially when I was growing up (I’m now almost 45 years old), that you’d hear things such as:

“Stop being a baby”

“Get up, it’s ONLY a scratch”

“STOP whining”

“It’s NOT that bad”

“Man up”

“I’ll give you something to CRY about”

“STOP crying!”

 

BUT the problem with AVOIDING our feelings, is that it is NOT natural to KEEP our emotions in because as humans, we yearn for certain needs to be met.

And when they’re NOT being met, our minds start trying to find ALTERNATIVE ways to cope.

Your Mind Will Always Find A Way To Cope

Some people will go to the following typical coping tools instead:

 

👉 Substance use (drugs, alcohol)

👉 Sex or people pleasing (serial relationship)

👉 Isolation, depersonalisation, self harm (Detachment from oneself)

👉 Avoiding reminders (triggers)

👉 Hyper-vigilance (constantly stressed, fearful)

👉 Panic attacks or phobias

👉 Anger, irritability, or violent behaviours

👉 Thrill seeking (participating in dangerous or risky activities)

👉 Food control, over/ under eating

 

So when the mind hasn’t been given correct coping skills, the mind WILL find a way to cope.

 

And REGARDLESS whether the mind picks a skill that appears to be harmful to the person, if NOT identified quick enough, the continuous involvement in the coping mechanism will FORM a HABIT.

 

UNTIL eventually, the mind THINKS it’s the ONLY way for you to SURVIVE.

 

So the absolute IRONY is, NO MATTER how F¥CKED up your habit is, you’re really SURVIVING!

Your mind is ONLY trying to keep you ALIVE!

Then as with the formula of HABITS… when something is performed OVER and OVER and OVER again…

It doesn’t really matter how you got where you are now, the HABIT has now made it SO easy for you to perform the activity, REGARDLESS whether it’s UNDESIRABLE or not.

Leaving you STUCK. In a LIFE your mind BELIEVES is normal.
