Weakness is ONLY in the mind

The brain will do its best to swing you away from PAIN and move you towards PLEASURE instead. This is due to our NATURAL survival instincts.

 

But as you know, unless we live in a super dangerous place, most of our danger these days is probably just crossing the road! 

 

There ain’t no lion waiting around the corner to attack you or any wild animals gonna chase you down the road either … it really isn’t like that anymore.

However, unfortunately, our brains haven’t caught up with the modern times. So anything we SAY to ourselves, the brain takes it as completely TRUE!

 

For example: I noticed the other day on my regular morning run that I don’t EVER seem to enjoy one part, which is a super steep hill.

Then I realised that it was because I was unintentionally TELLING my brain that this hill was DANGER!

HOW you ask???

 

 

Well these were the thoughts that were running through my head…

As I was approaching the hill…

“Not looking forward to this hill”
“That hill looks so steep”
“I hope I can breathe OK all the way up”
“I HATE this hill”

 

Then as I was running up the hill…

“OMG my legs hurt”
“I feel so heavy”
“I CAN’T breathe”
“I may as well walk I’m going so slow!”
“Am I there yet?”
“NOT enjoying this!!!”

But then, it dawned on me…

 

What am I doing???!




I realised that my brain was actually doing EXACTLY what I’d been TELLING my brain to do!!!


So, my brain was thinking to itself…

“Mel is FEELING pain!”
“Mel can’t breathe!”
“Mel even said she HATES this hill!”


Brain is then thinking…

“I KNOW☝🏽!… I’m gonna make it IMPOSSIBLE for Mel to enjoy the hill so that she’ll STOP!”
“I’m gonna make it SO hard and make her legs feel heavy…”
“Make her breathe EVEN harder…”
“Make Mel feel SO BAD that she’ll have NO CHOICE but to STOP!”
“Then there’ll be NO PAIN”
“YAAAAY!!! What an awesome plan! I’m gonna SAVE Mel from DANGER👌🏽!!!”


And the brain feels accomplished because it THINKS it SAVED me🙄🤦🏻‍♀️

So, once I realised that I was sending the WRONG messages to my brain, I decided to test this theory…

I began a new set of thoughts…

 

As I was coming towards the hill…

“I’m really looking FORWARD to this hill”

 

Then as I was running up the hill…

“I LOVE running up this hill”
“My legs feel SO powerful”
“I can feel my arms toning with every arm swing I make”
“My abs are LOVING this hill”
“I feel LIGHT as a feather”

 

OMG! It was like short of a MIRACLE!

The DIFFERENCE my SELF-TALK made to my run was incredible!

 

Now I REALLY TRULY look forward to this hill!

 

I also LOVE and LOOK FORWARD to my REWARD at the top of the hill which is the endorphin RUSH!

Honestly, there AIN’T a better DRUG than your natural ENDORPHINS!

Now, I APPLY this technique to EVERYTHING!!!
